For the first time,iLoveMakonnen has addressed Migos’ controversial comments regarding his sexuality, in an exclusive feature with Fader.

According to the “Tuesday” hitmaker, the Atlanta triumvirate only reneged on their comments about his sexual orientation because of their newly crowned No. 1 record “Bad & Boujee.”

“Did someone mention credible and not mention incredible? That’s really my only comment,” said Makonnen. “Was there not an ‘in’ front of that credible? You see how friends do in interviews. So it’s like, oh well. With friends like these, who needs enemies. And now you gotta come back with some sorry a– excuse. Nah. That’s only ’cause you got the No. 1 record and you didn’t wanna f— it up,” he added.

He continued: “[But] they ain’t got no problem with gay people! They f—in’ song is ‘Versace’! Like, the f—! N—a, [Gianni] Versace is the gayest n—a. They ain’t got issues with him, why they got issues with me?”

In January, Makonnen announced on Twitter that he was gay. “Someone said to me next time they see me, they was gonna f— me, I said next time I see me, I’m gonna love me up,” he wrote. “As a fashion icon, I can’t tell u about everybody else’s closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it’s time I’ve come out. And since y’all love breaking news, here’s some old news to break, I’m gay. And now I’ve told u about my life, maybe u can go [live] yours.”

In an interview with Rollingstone, Migos responded to Makonnen’s coming out. “They supported him?” questioned Quavo. His cohorts Offset and Takeoff were more direct in their responses. “This world is not right,” said Takeoff, while Offset said that the support only came “because the world is f—ed up

The group’s comments led to backlash from social media, which in turn prompted the trio to release a statement regarding the matter. “We always been about being original and staying true. Staying true to yourself goes a long way,” the note read. “We are all fans of Makonnen’s music and we wish he didn’t feel like he ever had to hide himself. We feel the world is f—ed up that people feel like they have to hide and we’re asked to comment on someone’s sexuality.”
